Celebrations and sadness

I can't believe how quickly time flies by... it seems like yesterday that my niece looked like this:

See that cute little picture of her printed on her "sweet 16" birthday cake! She was about 9 mos. old. It's amazing that we are celebrating her 16th year of life!

On Saturday we had a surprise birthday party for her with tons of family and friends and she had no idea! This was her timid walk around the corner when she caught on that something was going on....

My sister had created a great collage of six photos from each of her birthday parties for the past 15 years. She promptly noticed the naked butt photo from her 2nd birthday with a "Really, Mom?"

It is so hard to believe that this is the grown-up version of my little niece that I bragged about as a senior in high school. I was just a year older than her when she was born! Crazy! Happy Birthday, Hay, Hay! (that was the nickname for herself because she couldn't say her own name!)
The sad news. It's days like Thursday when I hate to be a news reporter. As a reporter, I talk (or e-mail) with Yarmouth police Lt. Steven Xiarhos almost every day or at the very least once a week. I had just talked to him on Wednesday about the "Ride for the Fallen" event he was organizing to raise money for the wounded warrior project. He was pulling people together to ride from Dennis to Wellfleet (30 miles) to raise money for the organization that provides assistance and funding for wounded members of the military.
The day after I spoke with Lt. Xiarhos, he lost his son during a combat battle in Afghanistan. Nicholas Xiarhos knew being a Marine was his calling when he signed up for the military just 10 days after his high school graduation in 2006.
It's such a tragic end to such a promising life. And while he was doing something he was so dedicated and committed to, it doesn't make it any easier for the family and friends left behind.
I hope the huge turnout at the "Ride for the Fallen" event (which had since been dedicated to Nicholas) helps bring some comfort to the family and friends of Marine Cpl. Nicholas Xiarhos. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.

More winners!

So about three months ago now I started a card challenge with my Stamp Club members. It really was a ploy to clean up my room (wink, wink) as I used leftover card kits from classes and workshops.
Each person who wanted to participate was given a kit that included a card base and several scraps to use to make a card. They weren't allowed to add any additional paper to the kit, but could use whatever stamps and emellies they wanted to create their card (Of course, Stampin' Up product was given preference).

The winner of the challenge each month gets a free Stampin' Up classic ink pad or a $5 product coupon. So I'm very behind on this little project and have two winners to announce from month 1 and month 2 (for Stamp Club #2).

For month one I had all nine club members participate and voting was very close, but the winner is:

Judy!

There was actually a tie for first place and the close runner-up for month one was Adrian who had an adorable owl card (of course!):

For month two, I also had a tie initially and had to seek out another demonstrator to vote (there were eight judges total and they voted for their first, second and third choice. (A first place vote got 3 points, second place got 2 points and third place got 1 point. The person with the most points at the end was the winner).

In the second month I had five participants and the winner was.....

Missy!
This was inside the card:

The very close second place went to Jill for this card:

Jill's card had a cute little hidden writing spot on the front, too:
Congratulations Judy and Missy... let me know if you want me to place an order for you now or if you'd like to wait until we start club up again.
For those of you in Stamp Club #1, we are in the process of setting the date for our next Club and whatever that date ends up being will be the deadline for your first card challenge.
Anyone who would like more info about joining or starting their own stamp club please feel free to e-mail me at jenpitta@comcast.net.
Thanks for stopping by!

And the winners are....

Sorry to be so late in posting this today! Tuesday is my busy day at work with deadline tomorrow and the Selectmen's meeting to cover tonight (for those of you who don't know, my day job is as a news reporter for a weekly paper on Cape Cod).

Anyway, without any further ado... I pulled names from my very sophistacted photo box for the two prizes mentioned here and the winners are...

In case you can't read that: Prize #1 goes to Laura Gray-Shultz and Prize #2 goes to ddmhunt. Congratulations ladies! And thank you to all of you for becoming my followers! I hope you will continue to "stalk" my blog ... hee, hee!

For my two winners, to claim your prize please e-mail me and confirm your mailing address with me and I will get the prizes out pronto! Thanks for playing! (Note: You will have until Monday July, 27 to claim the prize before I draw new names)

Be sure to check in tomorrow when I will post the first two winners in the card challenges I offer to my stamp club members....

Knee deep in photos!

Happy Friday! I've been slowly working on a reorganization of my scrapbook room. My first step is to re-organize my photos. I haven't been very good at scrapbooking lately and I think part of it is because my photos are filed everywhere and anywhere.

I had started to reorganize my photos about a year or a year and a half ago after reading Photo Freedom by Stacy Julian. I had separated many of my photos into albums I could flip through when I wanted to scrapbook... I liked the idea of this rather than digging through a file, however, instead of just putting photos that actually "speak" to me in terms of scrapbooking into the albums -- I put EVERYTHING in those albums so now I have 13 filled albums -- some with photos I would probably never scrapbook.

So now, I'm sorting through ALL my photos again... first creating piles of photos of specific people (Matt, Me, Mom, my niece, newphew etc) and then other piles of events (Mother's Day 2009, Fouth of July 2009, Christmas 2008 etc).

My plan is to then go through each pile and pull out the photos I think I will actually scrapbook and put the others in an album or throw them out. Then I can go through the "portable" (for crops) forget-me-not file boxes from Stampin' Up for various events or people I want to scrapbook and once I've scrapbooked the event (say, July 4) I can put the remaining photos I don't use either in a people file (under me or Matt, etc.) or in a photo album.
It's basically the same process as the Photo Freedom book, only I'm skipping the part where she holds her photos in albums to look through for scrapping.
I'll let you know how the process goes... right now I'm feeling a little overwhelmed... how does a woman with no animals and no kids end up with close to 15 full photo albums plus all the photos you see on the floor above???!!
Next up will be reorganizing my products and supplies and decorating the stamp room... wish me luck! Well, I guess I should get through the photos first!

A very late swap... and a deal you don't want to miss!

Hello my friends! Sorry I've been MIA for a couple of days. I've all of a sudden got into this mode of wanting to do nine million things at once! Well it's a combination of wanting and needing to do that many things at once!

I decided earlier this week after reading Krista Hannah's blog entry about redoing her Kraft Haven, that I wanted to do a scrapbook room overhaul, too. So I've started thinking about that and began a rather large photo organization project this week (I'll show you pictures in my next post). I also have a class to teach tomorrow at the Harwich Council on Aging, a rendez-vous with a long lost friend tomorrow morning, swaps that are WAY over due (they are supposed to go out July 1) and a workshop to plan for next week... Oh and we're leaving for Vegas in two weeks so I have to get ahead of the game at work and actually write some stories to run in the paper while I'm away!

Whew, I'm tired already! lol! Anyway I thought I would share my long-overdue swap for my convention buddies from last year (I'm having a bit of withdrawal that I won't be going this year -- although being in Vegas will help remedy that problem!)

Here is the swap card I did. It is rather simple. The theme was a summer card so I used Crushed Curry and Melon Mambo with the Tart and Tangy stamp set. It's fairly straightforward in what I did -- no fancy techniques except (you probably can't see it in the picture) I used crystal effects on the popped-up lemon to give it a little dimension. I love doing that!

Rather simple, but I like it.

So if you've ever considered becoming a demonstrator, now is the time to do it! Remember, just because you become a demonstrator doesn't mean you have to hold workshops and classes! You can join just for the discount! As a demonstrator I get 20% off everything I order including big ticket items like the Big Shot! PLUS we get to pre-order new product releases usually at least a month before our customers! So as of August 1, I get to order out of the new FANTASTIC holiday mini-catalog (scroll down to this post to ready a little about what's inside that catalog!) and begin playing with all my goodies before my customers even see the catalog!
In addition, Stampin' Up is offering two great options for new demonstrators right now!

OPTION 1: If you already have a lot of Stampin' Up product OR you just really love the new In Colors and don't plan to host workshops or events, you can purchase the new mini-starter kit for just $85! You still get all the benefits as a regular demonstrator (discount, free monthly magazine, demonstrator training site with free patterns and templates and the ability to pre-order new merchandise!) and here is what you get in the kit:

* For All you Do Stamp Set, $28.95 value (page 118 in the catalog)
* All SIX new In Color Ink Pads, $35,70 value
* 8.5 X 11 package of whisper white cardstock, $7.50 value
* 8.5 X 11 package of assorted In Color cardstock, $7.95 value
* All the regular business supplies that come in the standard starter kit, over a $60 value

OPTION 2: If you don't already have a lot of Stampin' Up supplies or are really looking to make this a business adventure and earn some extra money either to support the household OR your habit (wink, wink -- that was me three years ago!) you can still purchase the standard demonstrator kit for $199 and you will receive in addition to the over $350 worth of stamping and business supplies, you will also get all six new In Color ink pads and a package of 8.5 X 11 In Color Cardsotck -- an additional $43.65 worth of product -- putting the value of the starter kit over $400 for just $199!

As a new demonstrator, you'll also get an extra 10 percent off (for a total of 30% discount) your first workshop order -- and remember this doesn't actually have to be a workshop! It can be your own personal order or a bunch of orders you collect from friends and family and YOU receive the hostess benefits and the 30% commission!

Sounds fun, right? Who doesn't love free stamps -- especially new ones!! lol! If you have questions please feel free to call (508) 432-2278 or email me, I'm always happy to help!

If you are ready to get started right away, jump on over to my website and sign-up online! (I tried to insert a link here, but my computer is not cooperating!! So head to www.jenpitta.stampinup.net and click on the "Start Your Own Business" Tab) You'll have your demonstrator id and access to the demonstrator website in usually a matter of hours! Just use the password "pitta padders" when signing up.

You'll love being a member of the Pitta Padders -- we have group meetings with swaps and hobby and business shares, the newly implemented annual Pitta Padders auction (only for my downline), plus a ton of other events each year like shoebox swaps and discounts on some of my classes and events!

And the best part is, if you decide it's not for you.... that's it -- you keep everything you have and continue stamping! You have nothing to lose!

Deal of the Week #3

As promised earlier today here is Deal of the Week #3:

This week you can get the fantastic square rhinestone brads for just $6.99! They are generally $10.95... that's 30% off the regular retail price. As an added bonus, anyone who places an order online through my website between now and the end of July will receive an extra surprise bonus from me! Hint: There's nothing like a little hand-stamped goodness to brighten someone's day!

I also promised you I'd spill the beans a little bit. As a Stampin' Up demonstrator, I got a sneak peek at the new Holiday Mini Catalog coming out on Sept. 1 and boy are there some great new things in store for Stampin' Up customers!

Here's a little rundown of the products making their way into the new mini: Build a Bear Workshops (think Big Shot Dies AND stamps), glitter paint, glittered chipboard, flocked designer series paper and new DIGITAL scrapbooking software... Holy Cow... it is all amazing!

I usually try to limit myself for what I buy from the mini-catalog only because we are not guaranteed that it will make it to the next big catalog, but I may just have to buy it all this time around! Lol!

Keep an eye on your mailbox for your new Holiday mini-catalog to be delivered... It should arrive mid-to-late August. If you are not on my mailing list already, e-mail me with your snail mail address and I'll add you to my mailing list! Trust me, you do not want to miss this mini! :o)

Just Playing....

Happy Monday (if there is such a thing! lol)

I had a really busy, but fun weekend! Had a baby shower for a close friend (and stamping buddy), my 15 year high school reunion and a fun night out at Trader Ed's in Hyannis Sunday.

I think I need a weekend from my weekend! The good news is I think hubby and I are off to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks... so I'm excited about that!

Anyway, last night I had some time just to "play" with my stamps and I have loved the color combo on a card on page 6 of the new 2009-2010 Stampin' Up Idea Book and Catalog so I decided to play and make a card of my own with that color combo.

I used Old Olive, Bermuda Bay, Rich Razzleberry and Barely Banana. I was hoping for a more soft and summery look, but I'm still happy with how it came out. Perhaps I should have used Barely Banana as the base to get the more summery look.... I'll have to try later and see which one I like better!

I also used the Great Friend stamp set (page 107 of the new catalog), which I earned from my fabulous upline, Karen Landry. Very fun and versatile set.

Going back to "high school" this weekend was fun, but a bit uncomfortable for me... not feeling so great about how I'm lookin' 15 years later... but it was still fun to chat and catch up after, honestly, having not seen many of those people since the day we graduated!

That's me and my high school sidekick, Kim. We don't get to see each other as much as we used to, but still catch up every once in a while... We're going to try and get together more often now... we'll see!

Thanks for stopping by today... and don't forget there is still time to enter to win one of these two fabulous prizes... just sign up to be a follower of my blog by July 2o.

Also, check back later today when I will reveal Stampin' Up's Deal of the Week and give you the skinny on some new promotions coming up soon and hints about the new holiday mini catalog coming out September 1 ... There's some really cool things happening, you don't want to miss out!

I need some followers.... and a giveaway (or two!)

So I've decided to put the "followers" gadget back up on my blog. I had taken it down because I felt sad that I didn't have any followers! lol! So to encourage some followers and clean out my stamp room at the same time..... I'm going to give away some blog candy!

Just for becoming a fan of my blog and becoming a follower, you could win one of the following two prizes:

Prize #1

Prize #2

Each prize includes 30 sheets of 12 X 12 retired Stampin' Up cardstock (assorted varieties), and a basic black Classic Ink Stampin' pad. In addition, Prize #1 has the "A little bit of Happiness" Hostess stamp set from a couple of catalogs ago and a goody bag filled with die-cut shapes, ribbon, chipboard elements, and hodgepodge hardware.

For prize #2 there is also the retired "Rustic Rooster" stamp set from the spring/summer 2009 catalog (I really wish I had a chance to play with that one... I know it will make some cute, cute cards!) and the Valet Ribbon originals ribbon also from the most recently retired catalog.

All you have to do to be entered to win one of these packages is become a "follower" by clicking on the link to the right by the end of the day on Monday, July 20 and on Tuesday July 21 I will announce the two winners of the prizes. You'll have to follow "publicly" when asked... so that I will know you have entered. (Note: I'm sorry to any international followers, but I can only ship within the U.S.)

It's that easy! You'll get some goodies and I'll get rid of some stuff out of my overflowing stamp room... (Boy is it messy right now!!!)

Hope you have a fantastic Thursday!

Deal of the Week #2

So I would love to show you some fabulous pictures of our Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, but I was taking photos with my sister's camera and well.... she is not known for uploading her photos in a timely basis. So you can look for those photos... let's say in September! lol!

Lots of Bots!

Happy Thursday! Just a quick post this morning to show you a couple of card samples using the new Lots of Bots stamp set... very cute!

You can't really see it well here, but this card says, "Happy Birthday, Human".

It also has a stamp with a robot that says, "Error. I'm sorry" and "Get Well Soon". You can see the whole stamp set here.

I'm super excited about my "Get the Scoop" event tonight. I can't wait for everyone to see the new catalog and rummage through my "oldie but goodie" stamp sets! I even brought back some of my older retired sets from previous catalogs! I'm also really looking forward to some ice cream!

Anyhoo... Here's another sample using the Lots of Bots set:

This card features the new In Color Rich Razzleberry. I'm getting the sense this may be my new favorite as I've used it several times on cards and a layout already. I guess we'll have to wait and see (I like Melon Mambo a lot, too!).

Thanks for stoppin' by!
