Stampin' Up Leadership 2014: Paper Pumpkin Craft Wars!

Hello everyone! Happy Monday... we're getting ready for another snow storm here on Cape Cod. Are you ready? I'm really not, but perhaps I'll get to work from home in my pjs on Wednesday... that would be nice! :)
So I hijacked the card to the left from the Stampin' Up corporate blog. You want to know why? Well, I made it and it's being featured on the SU blog along with 19 other cards by some amazingly talented demonstrators. At Leadership 2014 Stampin' Up hosted "Paper Pumpkin Craft Wars." They had a few tables set up in the Demonstrator Resource Center. One station had the pre-cut card bases, designer series paper and embellishments. The other table had all the exclusive Paper Pumkin stamps, ink pads and some Stampin' Trimmers. They gave us 15 minutes and we had to create a card with what was on hand.                                                                                         I have to admit it was very overwhelming (most of the DSP was still in 12 x 12 size... it takes a lot of convincing on my part to cut into a new piece of 12 x 12 cardstock... something I struggle with nearly every day! ;) Anyway, once I got going I was ok. I never expected to be picked as one of the winners (remember there were 1,000 demonstrators at this conference!). But it was very exciting to have my name up on the Jumbotron!

Stampin' Up Leadership 2014: Overview

I probably should have posted this before my Manager's Reception review, but, well, I'm kind of a backwards sort of girl... so be it.

One of the things I love most about Leadership over Convention is that it's a smaller more intimate crowd. There's only about 1,000 people instead of upwards of 3,000 and 4,000 (Last year for the 25th anniversary there were almost 6,000)!

Because it's a much smaller crowd, Stampin' Up actually provides us a plated lunch on two of the three days we are there. Now I forgot to take pictures of my actual meal on the second day (I got one of the salad and dessert, but not our chicken dish)... here was the line-up for Friday, January 10: 

First up was the yummy salad to the right... I skipped the oranges or mangos or whatever it was... but I loved having the pecans on my salad... I do that at home, too!
For our entree we had a roasted vegetable lasagna... I didn't eat breakfast that morning so I was super hungry and ate the whole dang thing (but not before I got a picture!).

Last up was the cute little apple tartlet thing... I love fruit, but not as part of my dessert (weird, I know), so I ate the whipped cream and the pastry shell... I'm just so healthy.

Another perk of Leadership (and any Stampin' Up event, really) is the bag... and oh how I love the bag we got this time around. It's very different from what we've received in the past... I may even use this one as a pocketbook at some point... it's so cute and the lining inside is printed with an adorable arrow pattern in Island Indigo. :)

The Return of Stamp Club & Stamp Club To Go!

So I took a little unplanned hiatus from my monthly stamp club here at my house and my newer Stamp Club To Go program late last year. Life just began to get in the way and I couldn't keep up. But, I'm ready to re-launch both of these programs and I'm really looking forward to it because I've streamlined the process for me so it's not so hectic (and time consuming). Therefore, no more hiatuses...  :)

So here is how it's going to work:



  • It's a six-month commitment.
  • Club Members are required to place a $30 order each month during their six-month commitment. "To-Go" members will need to place their order in my online store by the 5th of each month (if that doesn't happen, then I submit their "just-in-case" order for them on the night of my "live" stamp club). "Live" stamp club members can just place their order on the night of our meeting.
  • The just-in-case order is required of all members. This is basically an order I can keep on file "just in case" you don't get your order to me in time for me to place the order. I will then place the order you have on file. I would recommend you select commonly consumed items like adhesive, envelopes and cardstock.
  • Each club member will get free products (at least $30 worth) during their hostess month. They can earn additional freebies by having an in-home party/class or catalog party during their hostess month.  
  • Club members will also receive a free copy of each catalog released, delivered direct to their door.
  • New club members can join at any time (they just must stay for the minimum of 6 months)
  • Each month, both the "live" club and the "To-Go" club will receive the same projects. "Live" club members will be able to make the projects using my supplies (excluding scissors and adhesive).
  • For "To-Go" members I will release the products I'm using for that month's projects on the 1st of each month. You can order the supplies I used (so you can recreate the projects just as I made them) or you can order something entirely different if you already have what I used or if you want to switch the projects up from what I did.
  • "Live" Stamp Club will meet on the Third Thursday of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 at my house.
  • "To-Go" kits will be shipped the next day (so the third Friday of every month) and will include a picture of each project and written directions to complete it. You'll also receive all the pre-cut supplies and embellishments (if it's one or two -- if we use a lot of one embellishment I'll recommend you order it in your monthly order) to finish the projects excluding basic supplies such as scissors and adhesive.
  • Each month will feature four projects. Generally the projects will be cards, but I will also include cute little gift items or a gift tag or something on occasion. There will be not be any scrapbook pages in this program. However, if you are interested in a Scrapbook Club option please e-mail me and let me know. If there is enough interest, I will consider offering this for scrapbookers, too!
  • Because I'm behind in getting the word out for January -- but I still want to start in January! -- I'm going to alter the "live" meeting date, ship date and order date just for January. "To Go" orders must be placed online for this month ONLY by January 21. The "live" meeting will occur on January 22. (Next month online orders for "To Go" kits will need to be placed by February 5.
  • January products being used include: Watercolor Wonder Stamp Set (clear: 133191, $21.95; wood: 133188, $29.95), blender pens (item # 102845, $9.95), Elegant Eggplant Ink (item # 126969, $5.95), Wisteria Wonder Ink (item # 126985, $5.95), Crumb Cake Ink (item # 126975, $5.95) and Black Staz-On Ink (item #101406, $7.95) -- you can use a regular black ink pad as well.
  • To join, please e-mail me your name, mailing address, phone number and a "just-in-case" order (required for "live" members, too) so that I can be sure all orders are entered in a timely manner. I will then arrange to give you a call at a time that is convenient for you so that I can get a credit card number to hold on file.
  • If you are a member of my downline you can attend the live meeting and complete the projects for a $15 fee. If you are long distance you can participate for a $20 fee (shipping costs). You will be responsible for ordering all of your own supplies. (I will send you the pre-cut elements for the projects).
  • Finally, because I am only allowed to sell Stampin' Up products in the U.S., this program can only be offered to U.S. customers. Sorry!

Stampin' Up Leadership: Manager's Reception

Hello and Happy Monday! I am in a fabulous mood today. I just returned from an amazing Leadership Conference last night and I am so excited and raring to go! Is that how you spell that?? Anyway, I thought I'd share a few of the highlights of my trip on the old blog and the best one to start with I thought was Manager's Reception.

This is only the second year that I've qualified for Manager's Reception (Last year I got to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando) and while I was super excited to see Harry Potter last year, this year was truly amazing. I'm not sure if it's because last year I was kind of solo for the trip or just because this year was better, but nonetheless... Manager's Reception 2014 was awesome.

Stampin' Up rented out the Downtown Aquarium (in Houston) for us for the whole night -- just us!  

We were greeting by these two (on the right) when we got off the bus from the conference center... talk about feeling short! :) They were really cool. That's the Aquarium building behind them... so fun. Our first stop was the Shark Depot. It was a cute little train that made it's way through the 7-acre park including a trip through a tunnel filled with sharks! Really tough to see, but you get the idea, right? Ugh. I'm so mad I forgot to bring my real camera. There were so many amazing photo opps. I'm just thankful that cell phones have such great cameras these days -- otherwise I wouldn't have anything to show you!

We then went in and played with the Sting Rays... I was a wimp and wouldn't feed them, but got soaked when my roomie (Rose Ward) fed them and they got overly excited. Unfortunately I don't have any of those photos... trust me it was hilarious. The facial expressions on her when the sting ray sucked the little fishy out of her hand was priceless. I was too busy inspecting the fish that they wanted me to touch! Ha. If you're friends with me on Facebook she tagged me in one of her photos... too funny.

Next we went upstairs to check out the buffet (after stopping outside to pick up a chocolate covered strawberry -- my very favorite!). Oh my goodness this buffet was amazing... here are a few photos...

This was my favorite (to the left)... it was a mashed potato (or sweet potato) bar! Oh my goodness... I'm in love. Let me tell you... I have a huge crush on potatoes... especially mashed! And this little idea was brilliant... they had like a wok-like pan except it was entirely flat and they put a scoop of potatoes on it and then "folded" in cheese, scallions, bacon, butter and mushrooms! Yumm-my!

They also had a shellfish bar, fruit bar, carving station, lobster sliders (I missed those... although I don't really like lobster all that much ...), and an amazing dessert bar! It was tough to decide what was better the mashed potato bar or the dessert bar!  
Outside they even had a hot chocolate station (because you know it was cold for Houston -- like 50) with all sorts of yummy toppings: marshmellows, whipped cream etc but I was too full to have any!

Just before we headed to the bus to head back to the hotel we got a cute little black and gold aquarium t-shirt and the Sail Away stamp set from the new Occasions catalog.

Stampin' Up: 2014 Occasions Catalog

 
Happy Friday! It's still a snowy day here on Cape Cod, but it's also a very exciting day (even though I'm breaking the news rather late today!). The brand new Occasions Catalog from Stampin' Up goes live today, January 3rd. This one is a beauty (I know, I say that every time).  I thought I'd share with  you a few of the new products that I'm most excited about. First, be sure to go check the catalog out for yourself... don't worry, I'll wait.
It's good, right? Well, here (in no particular order) are the "must haves" for me (in fact, some of them I already do have!): 

1. The Retro Fresh Suite - I know, this is cheating because that encompasses like eleven products, but really -- I love the colors if this product line. My favorite items are the Retro Fresh Designer Series Paper (pg19, item#132993, $10.95) and the On Film Framelits Dies (pg.18, item#132969, $29.95)

2. Happy Watercolor Stamp Set (pg. 22, item#133191, $21.95) - this one is going to be so easy to stamp with. I am so bad at the whole watercoloring thing so this set is perfect for me. I also love the coordinating Watercolor Wonder Designer Note Cards & envelopes (pg. 22, item#133362, $12.95).

3. Gold Sequin Trim (pg.23, item#132983, $4.95) - Um, hello beautiful.

4. The Perfect Pennants Stamp Set & Banners Framelits Dies Bundle (pg. 27, item#134816, $41.50) - I love making banners and these framelits will make that so easy -- plus the stamp set has some greetings in it. Lots of good uses for this one.

5. Baby We've Grown Stamp Set (pg. 28, item#133089, $17.95) - I don't own a baby stamp set yet and I absolutely adore the little baby shoes. Plus it's got the cutest little owl family in it... who doesn't love owls?

6. Mini Memories Simply Created Album Kit (pg.31, item# 133332, $13.95) - This kit is really beautiful - it's in "in-person" must-see.

7. Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack (pg. 33, item# 132996, $6.95) - The colors in this paper stack are so beautiful together. I've already made three different cards with the same color theme - so bright and bold.

8. The Angled Tag (pg. 35, item# 133323, $22.95) and Scalloped Tag Topper Punch (pg. 35, item# 133324, $22.95) - I've been wanting a die or punch for tags for soooo long. I love that you can make the tags as long or as short as you want!

9. The Just Saying Stamp Set & Word Bubbles Framelits (pg. 36, item# 134820, $37.25) - These are just adorable and are great for scrapbookers as well as card makers.

10. Mini Metallic Clothespins (pg. 37, item#133320, $3.95) - Who doesn't love some adorable little clothespins -- and in gold and silver? Score!

Goodbye 2013... Hello 2014!


Happy New Year! I tried to type up this post before 2013 actually ended, but blogger was just not cooperating! So I had a couple extra days to marinate on 2013 and what I want for 2014. I find it rather interesting that this year I've been really hesitant to make any plans/resolutions/goals for the new year. For those of you that have followed this blog, you may know that this is very uncharacteristic of me! I usually love a new year and am all about setting some goals and talking about the prospect of a clean slate.

Interestingly enough, I'm also having a hard time recalling 2013. It's honestly as if it went by without me realizing it! Strange. Nonetheless, I have come up with a few things that were highlights for 2013 (thanks to being able to review my blog) and I thought I'd share them with you (I personally love to read New Year posts -- I find it fascinating to read other people's highlights and goals... but feel free to skip to another post if this doesn't interest you.)

Anyway, highlights of 2013:

Leadership Conference is always a highlight of my year -- I leave for this year's conference in less than a week! One of the best parts about this trip each year is that it's always held in a warmer location than cold Cape Cod in the Winter (we are actually having a blizzard as I type this!). Folks, I'm headed to Houston next week!

I started the Top Five Tuesday posts in 2013. One of my favorites is this one. What can I say, I'm a book nerd. While it won't necessarily be every Tuesday -- I still plan to continue these in 2014.

I totally fell in love with these dress-up products from Stampin' Up. While the stamp set is no longer available, you can get the framelits here. Let me warn you -- these are addictive!

Making the display board at Convention is always fun!

Starting my wedding scrapbook (nearly 7 years after the actual nuptials) was a big step -- I haven't worked on them again since, but there's always 2014! :)

Stitch Fix has been such a fun addition (or perhaps I should say addiction) to my life -- who doesn't love a little happy mail? (You can see fix #2 here, another one here, and I still have more to share with you....)

I submitted my entry for the annual Stampin' Up Artisan Award last spring and while I didn't win, I'm proud of myself for making the effort (You have to submit 5 cards, two 3-D items and three scrapbook pages). And I have to say this was my favorite submission.

Of course, remembering my Mom this Christmas with these special gifts was also an important part of me growing into the "new Jen" post-loss. I really love how these came out.



And while I'm not completely committed to 2014 yet, I do have some big ideas that are still percolating for the new year. I'll have to get back to you on details since - as I mentioned I'm having a hard time being definitive about 2014! Weird.
