Fall for Holiday Countdown #8: A Beachy Little Christmas

Hi there friends! Happy Friday! I’m running around frantically today trying to get prepped ahead, and then load my car so I can hit the road! I’ve been so busy this morning, I almost forgot to post this! Anyway, we’re on day #8 of my countdown of fun, fall projects featuring product from the new Stampin’ Up Holiday Catalog, which was released September 1st. You can find the new holiday items in my online store HERE and as a downloadable PDF HERE.  So when I first saw “A Beachy Little Christmas” stamp set, I knew it would find a home in my craft room. I mean with a name like By the Shore Stamping, it’s kind of a must-have, right? For this countdown, I’ve been trying to come up with ideas, techniques and tricks to share with you that might also help you learn something new. So It’s kind of funny that as I was prepping for my card class at Ready Set Crop this weekend, I was having the hardest time thinking “simple” now that I’ve been making these “stepped up” cards for you over the past few days! An occupation hazard I guess this week! Anyway, I did

Fall for Holiday Countdown #7: For the Hostess with the Mostess

First, let me start my Countdown post today with a great big thank you for all of your kind words yesterday. I really do appreciate it… and there are so many of you that struggle with the same issue. So I’m glad I shared. So often we feel isolated in our grief, and sharing, communicating and creating can be such a valuable tool in healing. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you can read THIS post to get caught up. If you’re ready to see the next project in my Fall for Holiday countdown, well you’re in the right place. I’m kind of excited about today’s projects – yes, plural! You get a two for one today because I designed a fun, vintage-y card for you and then decided it needed a “companion.” So I added a wine tag as well. I explain how the combo came about in my video today.  And if you’re just joining me, be sure to jump back a few days here on the blog because I’ve been sharing a new project each day since September 1st (the launch of the new Holiday Catalog from Stampin’ Up). We’ve covered fall, Halloween and

Fall for Holiday Countdown Day #4: Clear Embossed Just for You

Happy Labor Day! I’m glad the sun is back out — at least for us here on the Cape. Hope it is for you, too! I’m just doing a little bit of work this morning and then I’m going to play for the rest of the day. It will likely be my last “play” day for a while! Of course I wanted to pop back in here today to share with you the next project in my Fall for Holiday Catalog Countdown! Today I’m playing with the Merry Little Christmas “mega” suite. It takes up two full pages in the new holiday catalog (pages 10-13). Specifically, I played with the Merry Little Labels bundle. I wanted to show how, while this suite — and this stamp set — are designed to be used for the holidays, it can most certainly be used all year long! Here is my card for today: This is a fairly straight forward card, but the part that was really fun and different (and what I really wanted to show you!) is the ombre stamping and clear embossing I did on the sentiment. Here is a close-up of that so you can see a bit more

A VIDEO??!!

Hey there, stampers! Long time no chat. Why does that keep happening? You know what it usually is? I almost never go on my computer anymore… dang phones make getting email and checking Facebook so darn easy that I very rarely crack open the old computer and I haven’t been able to get the blogger app to work on my phone. Anyway, enough excuses… I’m here and I’ve got pretty things to show you! Did you catch my online catalog launch party last night? I had a lot of fun chatting with some crafty friends from all over New England! We spent about 2 hours sharing projects, winning prizes and watching videos! This card is a super simple one that I shared with my online catalog party friends last night. I even did a VIDEO! Holy cow. In fact, I did three and I just uploaded the third video I created for the par-tay tonight (YouTube was being SUPER slow last night so I didn’t get them all uploaded during our online time… but we still had plenty to talk about)! If you want to check it out, you can scroll through all our posts right here. On to

It’s Time to Sale-A-Brate!

Happy 2015! So sorry I sort of fell off the face of the planet at the end of 2014. Sometimes you have to know when it’s time to disappear for a bit. Personally 2014 was not my best year, but I’m ready to start a new year with a fresh new, positive outlook! I still do love a new year and while I know January 1 isn’t any different really than December 31 — it just gives me that mental fresh start that I love. Know what else I love? Sale-A-Bration! So excited that the most anticipated promotion of the year is here! The products our fabulous and did I mention there’s a new Occasions catalog, too? I always love the spring options… I think after four months of creating holiday cards I get so excited to start playing with pastels again! Anyway, I need to get back to creating some samples with some fabulous new goodies, but I wanted to give you the run down on Sale-A-Bration. There are three ways to take advantage of SAB: 1. Host a Workshop – This one might be the most fun… get together with some friends, make some fun crafty projects

Meet the Crafter: Sarah K

Howdy stampers! Boy, it’s been a long time. I’ve been thinking often of this poor neglected blog. I’m hoping to change that. I miss checking in with you, connecting and sharing! I thought today I’d start off with a new feature I want to add on a regular basis to my blog. I don’t know about you but I love to read about other crafters – what inspires them, what their favorite techniques are, favorite products, etc. So once a month I’d like to feature a different crafter friend who will share all the juicy details of their crafting life. For first volunteer for this fun series was my friend and fellow Cape Codder, Sarah K. Here is a very happy picture of her after a fabulous crafting “score” from Craigslist! Let’s get to know her a bit… How did you start paper crafting and what is your paper craft of choice (card making, scrapbooking, etc.)?My grandmother bought me my first rubber stamp at a craft fair on the Dennis green when I was a kid.  I loved to make stationary and gift tags!  A small collection of stamps followed.  Today I enjoy cardmaking but continue making gift tags. Where do

Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!

Is there really a time limit on the day that you can share your love of someone with them? I mean can I only send a card to a friend to tell them I love them on Valentine’s Day? I’m hoping not… as I have some really cute cards to share and I don’t want to have to wait until next year! I spent the weekend making up the remainder of my Valentine card kits from my marathon of card classes the week before. I thought I’d share a few with you… This one was for my honey… Sorry about the picture… I was taking advantage of the natural sunlight in my room, but aparently there was a bit of a shadow in the lower corner. Anyway, I love the chevron punch… have you seen that one yet? This punch is almost like two in one because you get the negative image chevron punch like pictured above, but then you also get all the pieces that are punched out, which you can then use on another project (I think those little mini “arrows” are great for scrapbooking!). For my card above I used a strip of Soft Sky cardstock inside that peeked through when the card was closed. The next card I wanted

Top Five Tuesday: Tools of the Trade

Hello there… Welcome to Top Five Tuesday!   This week I thought I’d share with you some of my favorite card making tools. Big Shot – Right out of the gate I have to start with my beloved Big Shot. While this machine is wonderful for all of it’s nifty possibilities — one of my absolute favorites for card making is embossing with the textured impression embossing folders. Exhibit A: This adorable little monkey card wouldn’t be half as cute without that fun vine-embossed old olive cardstock, now would it? (speaking of that… this is the last week you can earn the vine embossing folder for FREE with a $50 order — a Sale-A-Bration bonus!) Punches – I absolutely love Stampin’ Up punches. They are a must for any card, but take this sample — all of the layering was made so, so easy and impressive thanks to all of our circle punches. Love that! Ribbon Scissors – I know this seems silly, but these truly are THE BEST scissors for cutting ribbon and what card is finished without ribbon?? Seriously, they are a must have, but keep them away from paper — these scissors and paper don’t get along… like oil

It’s a Flower Fest!

Boy am I glad it is Friday. This week was rough. I’m happy I’ll be able to spend some time with my Mom tomorrow and hopefully get caught up on a bunch of things (mostly cleaning) that need to get done at the house, too. I thought I’d share another card featuring a favorite retiring stamp set of mine. This one is called Flower Fest and I love how it looks like crayons when you stamp it. Click on the photo to see it up close – you’ll see what I mean. Go ahead — I’ll wait. 😉 This also features two retiring In Colors – Blushing Bride and Poppy Parade. I really like both of these colors. Oh, actually I just realized there is another retiring color mixed in there — Pear Pizzazz. That has been one of my absolute favorite greens lately. If you haven’t stocked up, run to the online store (or rather click) ASAP as the In Color items tend to sell out quickly. Just two more weeks until we have the new Idea Book and Catalog to play with! I know you’re going to love it! Want a copy? E-mail me and I’ll set it up to be delivered directly to your door. I just ask that

Happy New Year

I say it every year…. I love a New Year. You can get rid of any negatives from the previous year, build on any successes and best of all wipe the slate clean if you choose to! Of course, you can do this at any time of year, but for some reason for me I always find the beginning of the year very inspiring. I’ve been scouring all my favorite blogs this past week taking in others’ resolutions, “One Word” picks, and plans for 2011. I have to be honest that I haven’t really been able to pinpoint my thoughts on this year… so no real insightful thinking to share with you today… but perhaps in the not too distant future… 😉 I figured since I can’t really collect all my goals, aspirations and desires for 2011 yet, I’d share my favorite projects from 2010. Have a look back… January: While I didn’t actually create this layout in January… I made it to commemorate my first trip to Leadership, which was in Phoenix, Arizona last year. This was a big milestone for me for a couple of reasons — first it was my first flight alone ever! (Not necessarily something
